Who We Are

American Institute of Massage Therapy (AIMT) has been a leader in the massage therapy industry since 1983. Our mission is to provide high-quality educational programs and affordable costs to promote the benefits of massage therapy. Led by our founder, Dr. Marquetta K. Hungerford, AIMT has been recognized for its exceptional programs, low tuition rates, and local community involvement.

For over 40 years, Dr. Hungerford has been dedicated to advancing the field of massage therapy. With a background in physical and rehabilitation therapy, shiatsu and orthopedic massage therapy, sports massage therapy, nutrition, and health-ology, Dr. Hungerford has played a significant role in shaping the industry. Her efforts have led to the acceptance of sports massage therapy at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, as well as the 1988 and 2002 Olympic Games.

AIMT is guided by a set of core principles, including respect and compassion, cooperation and mutual support, ethical conduct, active community participation, and personal health. Our commitment to these values drives our approach to education and community engagement.

Programs

AIMT offers a comprehensive curriculum that provides students with hands-on experience through intimate classes and training. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of students and prepare them for a successful career in massage therapy.

Our curriculum is based on a formula developed by Dr. Hungerford, which combines western and eastern perspectives and practical skills. Our programs cover a wide range of topics, including anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and massage therapy techniques. Our courses are designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to work in various fields, including physical medicine and physical culture.

AIMT is licensed to operate by the State of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (BPPE). We are also approved by the California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) and institutionally accredited by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation (COMTA). Additionally, AIMT is a member of various professional associations, including the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP), International Sports Massage Federation (ISMF), and International Myomassethics Federation (IMF).
