Massage Therapy Associates

At Massage Therapy Associates of the New River Valley, we are a group of licensed massage therapists practicing in the Roanoke and New River Valleys. Our team is diversified and integrative, with training in a wide variety of specialties. All of our members have passed a National Therapeutic Massage Certification Exam and are licensed by the Virginia Board of Nursing. Additionally, our associates are members in good standing with either the Associated Bodywork and Massage Professional or the American Massage Therapy Association.

Meet Our Team

At the heart of our team is Tod Whitehurst, LMT, who is a licensed massage therapist and a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA). Tod is a founding member of Massage Therapy Associates of the New River Valley and was a faculty member of the Blue Ridge School of Massage & Yoga, where he taught classes in hydrotherapy, sports massage, ethics, workplace massage, and hot stone therapy. Tod holds a graduate degree from Lynchburg University and Blue Ridge School of Massage and Yoga. His training includes Medical Massage, and he has developed a unique technique called "Muscle Comforting". Each session is tailored to the specific needs of his clients.

Another key member of our team is Luci Merlo, Massage Therapist, Lymphatic Therapist, Trager Movement Educator, Aquatic Tai Chi Instructor, and Rehabilitation RN. Luci has a broad and balanced approach to massage and movement therapies. With her extensive training in traditional deep tissue and myofascial release techniques, Luci also integrates advanced lymphatic and neuromuscular reeducation methods. Her sessions are grounded in deep relaxation as a foundation for lasting benefits. Combining rehabilitation nursing with massage and movement therapies, Luci has cared for clients with complex conditions including chronic pain, stroke, MS, Parkinsonism, scoliosis, joint problems, and spinal cord injuries.

Policies

To ensure that our services are accessible to all, we require 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. In the case of a bona fide emergency, we understand that cancellations may need to be made at shorter notice. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. Please note that a 50% charge may apply for less than 24 hours' notice, and a 80% charge may apply for no-shows.
